Hello everyone. Welcome to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. Today, I’ll be rating the 10 short novels and stories that I’ve read so far in 2026. To qualify, a book needs to be less than 200 pages long. The book I liked the least is mentioned first all the way down to the one I loved the most and that made it to my New Favorite list. Here goes:

10. A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr (Page count: 104 pages)

Read my review for this book here.

9. Querido Diego, te abraza Quiela (Dear Diego) by Elena Poniatowska (Page count: 82 pages)

A full review for this book is found here.

8. Doce cuentos peregrinos (Twelve Pilgrim Tales) by Gabriel García Márquez (Page count: 175 pages)

I talk about this book in my January 2026 Monthly Wrap Up.

7. Esta noche moriré (Tonight, I will die) by Fernando Marías (Page count: 140 pages)

I share my thoughts about this short thriller here.

6. El tapiz amarillo (The Yellow Wallpaper) by Charlotte Perkins (Page count: 38 pages)

This is one of the shortest books I’ve read this year, but it delivers a mean front kick. Read my review on it in my May 2026 Monthly Wrap Up.

5. When The Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka (Page count: 144 pages)

This was the best book I read in February. Read my thoughts about it here.

4. Crónica de una muerte anunciada (Chronicle of a Death Foretold) by Gabriel García Márquez (Page count: 134 pages)

This is my second favorite book by this author. Worth the read. Read my thoughts here.

3. La amortajada (The Shrouded Woman) by María Luisa Bombal (Page count: 139 pages)

You’ll know I like this one. Read my review here.

2. Las batallas en el desierto (Battles in the Desert) by José Emilio Pacheco (Page count: 72 pages)

This was an instant five-star read for me, and I have my little brother to thank for giving a new copy on my birthday. Thank you! Find my review here.

1. All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarche (Page count: 195 pages)

This is the best short novel I’ve read this year. Let’s see if anything tops it in the following six months. I doubt it though. Read my review here.

Thank you for visiting my blog today. My next post will be about the top historical novels I read in the first half of 2026. Stay tuned.
