JUNE WRAP UP: What I Read This Month

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. In this post, I will be doing a wrap up of all the books I read in June. This month I read a lot more books that I did not like. I read six books this month. These reviews have spoilers: 1. The Land Beyond The Sea by Sharon Kay Penman This book is very long, and it has very small font. It took me more than two weeks to finish it. Set in the Holy Land or Outremer, this book relates the events leading up to the Third Crusade. That is,…

BOOK REVIEW: Circe by Madeline Miller

Hi everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. Today I will review Circe by Madeline Miller. At a later date, I will also review The Song of Achilles, by the same author. Like all my reviews, this one too has spoilers. Circe by Madeline Miller was first published on April 10th, 2018, and it has become a critically acclaimed novel since then, winning, for example, the 2018 Book of the Year Award allotted by the Book of the Month subscription book box service and the 2019 Book of the Year Award for Adult Fiction in the Indies Choice Book Awards…

BOOK REVIEW: A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. Today I am reviewing A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. This book was shortlisted for the 2020 Women’s Prize for Fiction, and this is not the first retelling of The Iliad to be considered for this accolade; The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, for example, won this award in 2012, and The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker was shortlisted in 2019. Read my review for The Song of Achilles here, whereas my review for The Silence of the Girls is posted here. Circe by Madeline Miller was also considered…

MAY WRAP UP: What I Read This Month

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. In this post, I will be doing a wrap up of all the books I read in May. These reviews have spoilers: This month has been my most productive reading month, and with the exception of The Lies of Locke Lamora, a month where I only read books written by female authors. So without further ado… 1. The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch In May I went back to fantasy and read this book for my book club, and I must admit it took me a while to even start…

Hi everyone, welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. Today I am reviewing The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco. This is the second book of The Bone Witch trilogy, and it continues the story of Tea and her journey as an antihero. My review for the first book of this trilogy The Bone Witch is found here. Visit the author’s website here. I will review the third installment of this trilogy, The Shadowglass, at a later date. This review has minor spoilers. BOOK REVIEW: The Grave At Storm’s End by Devin Madson

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. Today I am reviewing The Grave at Storm’s End by Devin Madson. This is the third book of The Vengeance Trilogy. Read my review for The Blood of Whisperers (Book 1) here and The Gods of Vice (Book 2) here. My review for the prequel In Shadows We Fall is found here. Visit the author’s website here. My review has spoilers. The Grave at Storm’s End (TGaSE) is one of those books that is both a satisfying end to the trilogy and unsatisfying in my personal experience reading it (this may be…

BOOK REVIEW: The Gods of Vice by Devin Madson

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. Today I am reviewing The Gods of Vice by Devin Madson. This is the second book of The Vengeance Trilogy. Click here to visit the author’s website. This review has spoilers. I will begin this review by saying that The Gods of Vice (TGOV) surpasses The Blood of Whisperers (TBOW) by a whole lot. The characters must now chose sides in the war between Kin and Katashi, and each decision they make is another thing I did not see coming. The pacing of this book, like the first, is fast, and I…

APRIL WRAP UP: What I Read This Month

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. In this post, I will be doing a wrap up of all the books I read in April. These reviews have spoilers: 1. Written in Bone by Sue Black This is the second book that I read from this author, and I absolutely loved it. Easily one of my favorite books this year, Written in Bone is a map of the human body that the author travels through, from head to feet, to relate her experiences in solving murder cases where the forensic evidence of a specific part of the body was…

BOOK REVIEW: Shadow of the Wicked by Douglas W.T. Smith

Hi everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. Today I’m reviewing Shadow of the Wicked by Douglas W.T. Smith. For this review, I received an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review. This novella will be published July 1st, 2021. Click here to visit the author’s website. This review has minor spoilers. Shadow of the Wicked (and I’ll pause right here, albeit briefly, to say, how cool a name is that?!) is the story of two brothers, twins, that are both captured and tortured by the same man, Pius. Now, Pius imprisons Jaromir and Talmage for different…

MARCH WARP UP: What I Read This Month

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Bibliophilia Book Reviews. In this post, I will be doing a wrap up of all the books I read in March. I only read three books this month. However, I did finish two fantasy trilogies. These reviews have spoilers: 1. The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang The Federation of Mugen has been destroyed. Rin razed it and burned it to the ground. It is what they deserved, Rin thought, after having done the same to Golyn Niis. But Kitay is disgusted at Rin’s blatant murder of innocent men, women, and children. Nezha however recruits her…
